After the assassination of journalist Al Jazeera's Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli soldiers in 2022, the number of female journalists in the field increased, although their presence had been low in recent decades. According to what Palestinian journalist Shatha Hanaysha told Noon, media coverage of women journalists and activists is no longer limited to funeral processions and routine interviews, but rather they have become more present in their roles. Journalist Shatha Hanaysha watched helplessly as Al Jazeera's Shireen Abu Akleh was murdered in cold blood by Israeli snipers in Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank, in May 2022. On January 4, 2024, she was under direct fire from the Israeli Army during a report. On September 2, 2024, Israeli army soldiers targeted a group of journalists, right next to the cinema roundabout in central Jenin, and their vehicles attempted to drive over a number of between them. She was injured by a bullet fragment in the leg.
