"This week, the head of the South Hebron Hills settlers' council proudly boasted about a new land-grab project: a tourist promenade that will connect Carmel to Ma'on. In practice, this is a continuation of the takeover of land belonging to the Palestinian village of Jawiya — agricultural fields and grazing areas that the villagers used freely until 2021, and which have been restricted ever since."

Then, settlers — including Yissakhar Man — arrived with a military escort and claimed they were leasing the land. Since then, a large vineyard has been established there, and Palestinian access has been prohibited. The authorities are preventing the original landowners from entering, and aggression toward shepherds and farmers has intensified — both in the remaining grazing areas and within the village itself.

Today, the residents of Jawwaya endure daily violence, their livelihoods have been harmed, and the Civil Administration is demolishing their homes. To all this is now added a tourist trail for Israelis, who are invited to hike, jog, and enjoy the view — at the expense of the people of Jawwaya, whose lives and safety are being trampled. The work was taking place adjacent to the vast area already allocated to Yissakhar Min — at the expense of Jawaya’s grazing lands — where a vineyard was planted over two years ago. The work was illegal even under Israeli law, and certainly under international law.

The work is taking place right next to the vast area already allocated to Yissakhar Man — at the expense of Jawawiya’s grazing lands — where a vineyard was planted over two years ago. As far as we know, the work is illegal even under Israeli law, and certainly under international law.
