In October 2023 (16-17 October), ELNET organized a French Solidarity Mission to Israel involving 10 French Parliament members and former Prime Minister Manuel Valls. The visit aimed to strengthen European political support for Israel during its war against Hamas.
The delegation visited sites in southern Israel affected by recent attacks, including Kfar Aza and the Shurah army base. They met with local officials, the families of hostages (including Mia Schem’s), and received briefings from Israeli security leaders. Meetings were also held at the Knesset and Israel's National Security Council.
The mission underscores ELNET's goal of "maintaining European solidarity with Israel throughout the conflict". Full article on The ELNET web site
The goal of this "tour" is the following : "As media attention turns to the images of Israel’s invasion of Gaza, having European policymakers see the reality on the ground from Israel’s perspective will be even more critical in helping sustain the necessary support from key European allies."
-> In the photos and the footage, we can see Golan Vach speaking to the French delegation, presenting his version of the October 7 massacres. At the time, Golan Vach was spreading the claim that Hamas had decapitated babies — a piece of propaganda later debunked by the Israeli press — but which nonetheless fueled French political support for Israel’s unconditional right to attack the Gaza Strip and its civilian population.
Golan Vach is a Reserve Colonel and head of the Israeli military’s National Rescue Unit (Home Front Command), responsible for coordinating body recoveries after the October 7 attacks During a media tour around October 14 (in places like Kibbutz Be'eri and Kfar Aza), Vach stated he personally recovered the body of a decapitated baby and claimed his team found up to eight burned babies in a single house. His remarks were echoed on i24News and even in a tweet from Israel’s Foreign Ministry. These shocking narratives were circulated among European delegations—such as the French MPs with ELNET—and contributed to strengthening political backing in Europe for Israel’s operations, framing them as responses to brutal atrocities against civilians. Media investigations (Haaretz, Le Monde, France 24, Ahram Online) found no evidence of babies being decapitated or burned. The youngest victim at Kfar Aza was actually 14 years old. IDF and government spokespersons admitted later than Vach used "infants" mistakenly instead of "children" or simply described badly burned remains that were difficult to identify. Israeli National Insurance Institute and social-security data confirmed the youngest death at Kfar Aza was age 14; the only baby killed on October 7 was a 10-month-old in Be’eri (shot, not decapitated)
"Bernard-Henri Lévy was the first European opinion leader to travel to Israel on a solidarity trip in the immediate wake of the Hamas attack. ELNET facilitated the trip.
Arriving within the first 48 hours, ELNET arranged for his meetings and briefings, including with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Though the IDF was still in the midst of fighting off Hamas terrorists that had infiltrated into Israeli residential communities, ELNET managed to receive military clearance not yet provided to any other non-military personnel, and was able to safely escort Levy to the south. He witnessed the carnage in the streets of Sderot as the decimated police station continued to smolder with smoke, and entered Kfar Aza, hiding for safety as soldiers cleared the booby-trapped body of terrorists. In the residential Kibbutz, he accompanied the ZAKA search and rescue teams whose job it is to remove the bodies of the countless men, women, and children brutally slaughtered by Hamas before the world even learned of the horrific atrocities committed there
Upon his return home, he penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal."
