Archivist Notes: Al-Hinnawi family massacre

Context:

  • In the afternoon, an Israeli airstrike targeted the Al-Hinnawi family home in Jabalia Al-Balad, northern Gaza Strip.

  • Gruesome scenes show torn bodies, split heads, and children appearing like disjointed dolls. A 7 month-old infant was found with her skulled completely hollowed out.

  • Islam Bader, Al Araby correspondent, reported that the house belonged to an employee of the Jabalia Municipality. He documented how the surrounding houses were also significantly damaged.

  • Anas al-Sharif, Al Jazeera correspondent, said Israel committed a horrific massacre against the family of Jabir Al-Hinnawi, an employee of Jabalia Municipality in northern Gaza, resulting in his martyrdom along with his wife and three children. There is also a number of people missing that no one is able to pull out. "We can see here how the floors of this house were flatttened in this violent airsrike. There were also some martyrs amoong the passersby in the street"

  • Since dawn on September 9, the death toll from Israel's bombardment in Gaza had reached 20.

Casualties:

  • Six people were kiled, including three women and two children: a 7 year-old girl and a 7 month-old baby, born and killed in this war.

  • 13 injuries reported.

  • Rescue efforts are ongoing to save some people missing under the rubble, plausibly torn to pieces according to the Civil Defense who reported findings torn body parts all around the house and street.

Victims were taken to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital.
