News Palestinian journalist Hamza Murtaja killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza school Tuesday 20-August-2024

GAZA, (PIC)

The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza announced the martyrdom of journalist Hamza Abdul Rahman Murtaja, which brings the number of journalists who have been martyred to 170 journalists since the beginning of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Murtaja was killed alongside at least ten people after an Israeli airstrike targeted the Mustafa Hafez School in Gaza City, where displaced people were seeking shelter.

Murtaja was a photographer and journalist working for several media outlets, and is the brother of the journalist Yasser Murtaja, who was killed by an Israeli sniper on April 6, 2018, while covering the “Return March” east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the GMO condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli deliberate targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists.

The GMO called on the international community and organizations concerned with journalistic work to deter the Israeli aggression, bring Israeli officials to international courts, push for halting the war of genocide and stop the crime of killing and assassinating Palestinian journalists.
