On January 1st, Israeli army destroyed the house of the prisoner Muhammad Talal Abu Yassin in Bal'a, east of Tulkarm, who was accused to be one of the perpetrators of the Beit Lid and Bal'a assault against Israeli soldiers. This assault led to the death of an Israeli soldier (Staff Sgt. (res.) Elhanan Ariel Klein) and the injury of of four Border Police officers., on Nov. 2, 2023, at the Beit Lid Junction.
Muhammad Abu Yassin has been in Israeli custody since January 2024.
On December 26, Israeli soldiers posted a demolition order on the wall of their two-story house and attached storage space, which is located in the western neighborhood of the town.
This is the second demolition notice issued to the family in November. The first notice had given the family 72 hours to file an objection, prompting them to evacuate the house in anticipation of the Israeli authorities carrying out the demolition at any time.
Local sources said that about 30 military vehicles and two bulldozers raided Bal’a, in Tulkarem, and surrounded a house in the western district of the town before proceeding Abu Yassin’s family home demolition.
IDF, Shin Bet and Border Police forces carried out this demolition operation overnight on January 1 in the village of Bal’a in the Menashe Brigade area of responsibility.
Israeli authorities have long used to punitively demolish the homes of Palestinians living in occupied territories and accused of carrying out attacks on Occupation forces, a policy that Israel does not apply to Israeli settlers who are involved in fatal attacks against Palestinians. Human rights groups say that is collective punishment and may amount to war crimes.
According to a statement IDF online, IDF forces, Shin Bet, and Mageb (Border police) operated in the village of Bal'a in the Menashe division and destroyed the "apartment of the terrorist" Muhammad Abu Yassin.
On January 10, Israeli occupation forces demolished the home, located in the Tulkarm refugee camp, belonged to the family of Mahmoud Sleit “Abu Hanoud,” a Palestinian prisoner accused of involvement in the twin operations at Beit Lid and Bal’a in November 2023. This house had previously been partially demolished in September 2024.
