"I want to thank @POTUS @realDonaldTrump for his unwavering support for Israel. During my recent visit to Washington, I said that Donald Trump is the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House. And President Trump shows that friendship each and every day. He has shown it through his visionary plan for Gaza, this is a plan which Israel fully supports. He's shown it by sending us all the munitions that were being held up. This way he is giving Israel the tools we need to finish the job against Iran’s terror axis. And he has shown it by fully backing Israel and putting the pressure to release the hostages where it truly belongs – on Hamas. Israel has accepted President Trump’s envoy @SteveWitkoff's plan to extend the temporary ceasefire by 50 days, during that time we can discuss the conditions for a permanent ceasefire that will end the war in Gaza. In Witkoff’s plan, half of the hostages would be released right away and the remaining half would be released if we reach an agreement on a permanent ceasefire. Again, Israel has accepted this plan. I accepted this plan. But so far, Hamas has rejected it. Hamas had also put forward positions for a permanent ceasefire that are totally unacceptable. Israel has decided to stop letting goods and supplies into Gaza, something we've done for the past 42 days. We've done that because Hamas steals the supplies and prevents the people of Gaza from getting them. It uses these supplies to finance its terror machine, which is aimed directly at Israel and our civilians – and this we cannot accept. We will take further steps if Hamas continues to hold our hostages. And throughout this, Israel knows that America and President Trump have our back. Thank you again, President Trump! Thank you for all you are doing to return our hostages, bolster our security and provide a future of prosperity and peace for all the peoples of the Middle East." - Source

Archivist Notes: Israel kills 6 as it stalls Phase 2 of the ceasefire

As the first phase of the ceasefire deal ended, Israel continued stalling the start of the second phase, proposing instead an extension of the first phase. This move was widely seen as an attempt to keep the door open for a resumption of its aggression on Gaza, instead of gradually paving the way to a permanent ceasefire.

Since the early morning hours on March 2, 2025, a series of Israeli attacks were reported across the length of the Gaza Strip, killing four Palestinians, while injuring at least five others.

At the same time, the Israeli Prime Minister's office announced that it would unilaterally close all borders crossings into Gaza and halt the entry of aid.

The following is a timeline of Israeli crimes and violations of the ceasefire during the day:

  • 6:45 am: intense gunfire from Israeli tanks east of the towns of Al-Qarara and Abasan, east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, as well as east of the town of Johr Al-Dik and Al-Bureij camp in central Gaza.
  • 8 am: an Israeli drone strike targeted a group of people in Al-Bura area east of Beit Hanoun, North Gaza. The airstrike killed child Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Masri (14 y/o), and later killed his older brother, Huthaifa Ibrahim Al-Masri (21 y/o) as his rushed to carry Mohammad. Moments later, Israeli troops advanced in the northern areas of Beit Hanoun and opened fire.
  • 9:30 am: stun grenades launched towards home in Al-Janina neighborhood, Rafah. One woman was injured.
  • 11:30 am: Mahmoud Midhat Abu Harb was shot by a sniper while he was atop his house in Rafah.
  • Midday: Palestinian woman Wafaa Fathi Fusayfis Killed by an airstrike in Al-Farrahin neighborhood in Khan Younis. Two other people were injured.
  • 6:40 pm: Two killed in Israeli drone strike around the airport in Rafah. One of the victims was identified as Badr Ibrahim Abu Sanima, a yonug man freed from Israeli captivity.

In the meantime, leading Israeli figures praised the Israeli move and incited for an escalation of aggression: Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Nissim Vaturi Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich
