"I was there that day with Haji Zaid Abu Halil with @VFPNational in Hebron. I am humbled to have stood in solidarity with him and many other Palestinian men and women defending their people and land from occupation. I will always be awed by Haji Zaid Abu Halil’s courage and steadfastness. He stood alone in front of a line of Israeli guns twice. Once when the Israelis were shooting at us, that is in the video circulating, and then again when the Israeli border police resumed firing. It was remarkable and that memory of his boldness and determination will never leave me. Bless his memory and bless his resistance. Free Palestine (The video circulating is from the first time he stood in front of the Israeli guns. The video in this post shows the second time. For more video of this protest, please go to the documentary linked in my reply to this message.)"

On October 7, in the city of Dura, south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, Israeli troops fatally assaulted 66-year-old Ziad Abu Hlail as they raided his home to arrest one of his sons. Ziad Abu Hlail, was a prominent Palestinian non-violent activist, and was often seen paecefully confronting Israeli forces in videos posted on social media of him preventing soldiers from firing at or arresting young Palestinians.
The family of 66-year-old Abu Hlail said that Israeli forces stormed his home during an overnight raid, causing him to fall when he went to check on his detained son.
He lost consciousness and died at his home before an ambulance could take him to a hospital, according to his wife Basma Abu Hlail.
“We were asleep, at 4:00 am, the (Israeli) forces surrounded the house and arrested my son, they took him out of the house. His father wanted to run after him, they didn’t let him. They pushed the door, he fell and died. He became a martyr. We called the ambulance and it didn’t arrive. God took his soul when he was at home, the ambulance didn’t take him to hospital,” his wife Basma Abu Hlail said.
