Archivist Notes: Ibn Al-Haytham School massacre

In the afternoon, an Israeli aristrike targeted the Ibn al-Haytham Boys' Primary School in Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City. The school, like all others, housed displaced people and a teacher by the name of In'aam, was still offering courses to her students there.

Journalists were told by the Civil Defense crews that the school was struck without warning with two bombs which penetrated all the way to the ground floor to the teacher's classroom, where displaced people were staying.

The intensity of the bombing caused victims to be flung out of the classroom and body parts were seen strewn about the scene.

This school has been targeted multiple times before, including during ground incursions.

Casualties:

  • 8 people killed, including 5 children and 2 women. Some victims were torn to shreds. One child's skull was cleaved.
  • Victims were taken to al-Ahli Arab (Baptist) Hospital.
