One killed in a Pogrom in Sinjil by Israeli settlers and soldiers

West Bank, Ramallah, Sinjil, Khirbet at-Tall 21 April, 2025
At least 1 martyred
**On April 21 2025,** dozens of settlers coming from the direction of a new illegal outpost established during the previous night on the lands of Sinjil began setting fire to agricultural structures, equipment, and residential tents of Palestinian communities. The perpetrators arrived accompanied by Israeli soldiers who shot stun grenades and tear gas at the Palestinians who tried to put out the fires. A farm owner suffered a heart attack after being physically assaulted, sprayed with tear gas, and struck in the face by Israeli settlers. He was hospitalised and died following of hearth attack. The settlers also torched the farm, destroyed a workshop under construction, stole 45 sheep, killed several more, and burned three livestock barracks. No Israelis were arrested while a Palestinian was detained. **Yesh Din investigation** @Yesh_Din researcher reported that dozens of settlers who arrived in the area, set fire to tents of Palestinian communities, agricultural warehouses and fields, as well as vehicles. The settlers arrived with military force that fired tear gas and rubber bullets at farmers who tried to defend their property. The settlers arrived from a new outpost established in Area B. **Btselem investigation** Israeli settlers erected an illegal outpost on Sinjil town land in the West Bank, triggering violent clashes. Settlers attacked Palestinian residents with stones and live fire, torched property, and displaced a Bedouin family. They were later aided or protected by Israeli soldiers. Wael Ghafri (48), a local resident, died after inhaling smoke from a shed torched by settlers. He suffered a fatal heart attack.Israeli Soldiers arrived late, used force against Palestinians (not settlers), and failed to prevent property destruction or violence. **Detailed Timeline of Events according to testimonies** *On 21 April 2025 (Monday)* Early morning: Settlers erect a tent on Jabal a-Tal hill, Sinjil land (Area B). 08:00 AM: Sinjil town council alerts Palestinian DCO and humanitarian bodies; no response. 09:30 AM: Wael Ghafri and his cousin film settlers from ~500m away. 11:00 AM: ~20 residents gather, approach hill; settlers throw stones from above. ~11:20 AM: Settlers outnumber Palestinians (~80 settlers arrive from Route 60). ~11:40 AM: Settler fires at residents (incl. Wael); no one hit. Residents retreat. Noon: Settlers torch Bedouin tents, steal sheep. Attack and pepper-spray 68-year-old Muhammad ‘Ara’rah. Burn Wael Ghafri’s brother’s farming shed and other property. After noon: Soldiers arrive, use tear gas and stun grenades on Palestinians, not settlers. A soldier hits Wael Ghafri with rifle butt during verbal confrontation. After settlers retreat: Wael enters burning shed, inhales smoke. Taken by ambulance to clinic, then to Ramallah hospital. Declared dead later that day from a heart attack, likely triggered by smoke inhalation and stress. **Weapon** Tear gas is commonly used by Israeli forces during raids across the occupied West Bank to disperse crowds. However, rights groups have long accused Israel of misusing the weapon. Though classified as a riot-control agent intended for open-air use, Israeli forces have fired tear gas into homes, clinics, schools, hospitals, and mosques, Amnesty International reported as early as 1988, provoking suffocation and injuring civilians. **Victim :** Wael Ghafri, 48, died due to suffocation from tear gas bombs fired by Israeli occupation forces in the town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, the Palestinian Health Ministry reports. Other testimonies said that he went to put out the fire when Israeli forces prevented him from reaching his home and he fought them with his bare hands and was immediately shot and martyred. ![](https://www.newarab.com/sites/default/files/2210735107.jpeg) ## Second wave of pogrom **On April 23**, for the second time this week, settlers set fire to homes and trees in the village of Sinjil. Armed Israeli settlers have been increasing their terror attacks on Palestinian towns and villages amid Israel’s ongoing military Operation Iron Wall. Israelis raided the town of Sinjil, northeast of Ramallah, and hurled stones at civilians, and burned property. At least ten Palestinians injured today alone.

Drone strike in Sidon (South Lebanon)

South Lebanon, Sidon 18 April, 2025
At least 1 martyred
On Friday April 18, 2025, an Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle traveling on the Sidon–Ghaziyeh road in South Lebanon, killing one person, according to the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of Lebanon's Health Ministry. Israel announcing that this attack had targeted a Hezbollah operative and "eliminated the Hezbollah terrorist Muhammad Jaafar Mannah Asaad Abdallah" An AFP journalist said the Israeli attack hit a four-wheel-drive vehicle, sending a pillar of black smoke into the sky. At the scene of the strike, members of the security forces stood guard as a crowd gathered to look at the charred remains of the vehicle after firemen had put out the blaze. Despite a November 27 ceasefire that sought to halt more than a year of conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, Israel has continued to conduct near-daily strikes in Lebanon. Hezbollah insists it is adhering to the November ceasefire, even as Israeli attacks persist. **IDF statement :** "Earlier today, an Air Force plane attacked with precision munitions in the Sidon area, eliminating the terrorist Muhammad Jaafar Manh Asaad Abdullah, a member of the terrorist Hezbollah."

Pogrom in Al-Rakeez and its aftermath

West Bank, Masafer Yatta, At-Tuwani, Khirbet al-Rakeez 17 April, 2025
### Chronology: Shooting and Detention of Saeed and Ilyas Rabaa / Al-Amour (April 2025) *** **April 17, 2025 (around 6:30 p.m.):** 16-year-old Ilyas Saeed Rabaa sees three armed Israeli settlers setting up iron pillars on his family’s farmland in Al-Rakeez, cultivated since 2012. Ilyas and his father, Sheikh Saeed Rabaa (60) (also called Saeed Al-Amour by the press and the activists), confront them. One settler (identified as a local outpost security guard) attacks Ilyas, seizes his phone, and chokes him. Saeed is shot in the leg by the settler after trying to help his son. Saeed collapses and bleeds heavily. Israeli soldiers prevent an ambulance and neighbors from assisting. **Later that evening:** Israeli Soldiers detain Ilyas, blindfold and shackle him, and accuse him of trying to seize the settler's weapon. He is held for a full day outside, given only stale bread, and later transferred to Ofer Prison. Saeed is hospitalized at Soroka Medical Center (Be’er Sheva). His right leg is amputated above the thigh. Despite being shot and hospitalized, he remains handcuffed to his bed. **April 20, 2025:** Both Saeed (via medical escort) and Ilyas (via video link) appear before an Israeli military judge. The court orders their release on bail (NIS 5,000 each). Israeli authorities delay Saeed's release, citing lack of an entry permit — even though Israeli forces brought him into Israel. **April 21, 2025:** Saeed is handed over to the Palestinian Red Crescent at the Meitar checkpoint and transferred to Al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron for further treatment. ### The details given by the differents local, Israeli or international activists *** **On April 17, 2025**, dozen of settlers attaked the hamel of Al-Rakeez. Saeed Al-Amour, a 60-year-old Palestinian near the village of At-Tuwani in Masafer Yatta (southern Hebron), was shot in the leg by the Israeli settler Binyamin Bodenheimer (the security coordinator of the Avigail settlement) while Sheik Saeed Al-Amour working on his land. Saeed was left bleeding on the ground for an extended period, denied immediate medical care. The delay led to a failed surgery and ultimately the amputation of his leg. Saeed’s 15-year-old son, who was attacked alongside him, was abducted from the scene after his father was shot and has since been held at the Israeli Ofer detention camp. Binyamin Bodenheimer—the settler who shot Saeed—is the security coordinator of the settlement of Avigail. As the person responsible for the settlement’s security, he is deeply committed to acting in the settlement’s interests, which means to the harm of his Palestinian neighbors. His activities include, among other things, expelling shepherds from their lands, harassing residents who are under threat of expulsion, and invading villages with youths from the settlement. **Aftermath** The 15 year-old son of Saeed, Elyas, remains in Israeli detention. The settler who shot Saeed has not been arrested or even questioned. In fact the settler returned tor Khirbet AL-Rakeez with Israeli forces. He has the soldiers there at his directive to make sure he is able to dig on the same land where he opened fire. Attempting to claim the land for his own. He showed he wants to continue tormenting Saeed’s family, who are still processing the trauma and the new reality. Maybe he wanted to remind them that he’s there, that he’s free, and that he can keep harming them — under the support and protection of the apartheid regime. Saeed is now under medical supervision, paying the price of a system that protects settlers and punishes the victims. **According to masafering on April 20** : *"We have full names of the attackers. Today, while Sheikh Saeed lies in the hospital with his leg amputated after being shot on Thursday by a settler, a hearing was held on the matter at the military court of the apartheid regime. However, the suspects are not the settlers who attacked Saeed and his son, but the victims themselves. Saeed was detained as a prisoner at Soroka Hospital and was not allowed to receive visitors or see his relatives or family members. * *On April 20, the court decided to release Saeed and his son from detention, demanding 10,000 shekels for their release. Due to technical reasons, the release will be delayed and will only take place tomorrow. Many complaints have been filed against the perpetrator, Benyamin Bodenheimer with the police, along with documentation proving the allegations, but the police, of course, are unfazed. Those belonging to the “superior race” are exempt from the law. Even when Bodenheimer shot Saeed, he was not required to appear for questioning (as far as is known). As for his arrest—there is no question of that, while Saeed, who was shot by him, is held as a detainee in the hospital*. *Today, Bodenheimer returned again to the area where the incident occurred, near Saeed’s home. Apparently, it was not enough for him, and he wants to continue making Saeed’s family’s life miserable as they are still processing the fresh trauma and new reality forced upon them. Apparently, the attacker also wanted to remind them that he is there at any given moment, that he is free and can continue to harm them as much as he wants, with the assistance and protection of the apartheid regime.* *Shooter's name: Binyamin Bodenheimer His accomplice: Amihai Shilo"* *Complaints were filed against Bodenheimer with the police, along with documented evidence supporting the claims — but, of course, the police are unfazed. Those belonging to the "superior race" are exempt from the law. Even after the shooting of Saeed, he was not required to appear for questioning (as far as we know). Not to mention arrest — while Saeed, who was shot by him, is detained in the hospital.* **On April 21**, Israeli forces released Saeed Al-Amour and he comes back to his house by ambulance. His son, Eliya, was released sooner in the same day. **On April 22,** Israeli forces launched another demolition operation in Masafer Yatta, destroying two residential homes in the village of Tuwani, belonging to the Al-Amour family—relatives of Sheikh Saeed from the nearby village of Al-Rakeez. Four adults and five children have been left homeless. This operation can be understand as a retaliation or a taregted harassement against this family in order to stela their land. ### The campaign of harassment continues *** **On July 21, 2025:** Settler attack on Sheikh Said's family, during which soldiers attacked the Sheikh's sons, broke the hand of one of them and then took them to a night of torture at the military base. Benjamin Bodheimer was present; **On July 24, 2025:** In a car near Sheikh Said's house in Kfar Rakhiz, sat Benjamin Bodenheimer — rabbi of the Abigail settlement. Three months ago, he shot the sheikh in the leg, leading to its amputation. Now he returns almost daily, a constant threat, reminding the family that the man who disabled their father is still here — waiting for another chance. ### Context & Background: *** The attack occurred near the Avigayil outpost, officially legalized by Israel in September 2023. Avigayil has been expanding and threatens nearby Palestinian communities like Al-Rakeez, al-Mufaqara, and Shaab al-Butum. Settler violence and military restrictions have intensified in Masafer Yatta, especially after October 7, 2023. Local Palestinians report daily harassment, crop destruction, and land takeovers by settlers.

At least 1 martyred
On April 14 2025, Malek Ali Al-Hattab 18 y/0 (or 16 y/o According to Defence for Children International - Palestine), from Ramallah and Al-Bireh/Jalazone Camp died of a live bullet wound to the abdomen, during the Israeli forces' raid on Jalazone camp. - At approximately 12:30 a.m. on April 14, Israeli forces raided the camp using two heavily armored military vehicles, one mounted with a rooftop machine gun. - During the operation, Israeli forces repeatedly cut off electricity and disrupted all communication networks, effectively isolating the camp. - One military jeep deployed soldiers to the al-Safi neighborhood, where they took up sniper positions on the balcony, while the second military vehicle advanced toward the market area, where around 30 young men and children had gathered. One soldier stationed on the balcony later shot Malek. - Al-Hattab was shot by the Israeli forces, along with two other young men who were injured in the knee and hand. He died on Monday evening from wounds he sustained after being shot by the Israeli soldiers. **According to DCI-Palestine**, Malek Ali Ibrahim Al-Hattab, 16, was shot in the abdomen by an Israeli soldier from about 30 meters (92 feet). Wounded, Malek attempted to crawl out of the line of fire. A young man tried to reach him, but Israeli forces fired additional shots to prevent aid. After about 30 minutes, the same man returned and managed to pull Malek to safety. With Israeli forces blocking ambulances at the camp’s entrance gate, Malek was transported in a private vehicle to Istishari Hospital in the nearby Rayhan suburb via Jifna village. The bullet severed a major artery and caused massive damage to Malek's kidneys, intestines, and colon. He received 14 units of blood, equivalent to the amount of blood within an adult, along with plasma and platelets, but his condition deteriorated. Malek succumbed to his wounds after nearly 20 hours in intensive care. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. on April 15. **Weapon** The bullet that struck Malek was likely an expanding bullet designed to expand inside the body upon impact, causing massive internal injuries. Customary international law prohibits the use of expanding bullets, or any bullets that expand or flatten easily in the human body, though DCIP regularly documents fatalities and injuries seemingly as a result of expanding bullets, also known as dumdum bullets. At least five Palestinian children, including Malek, have been killed by expanding bullets in the occupied West Bank since October 7, 2023, according to documentation collected by DCIP. **Statement of Ayed Abu Eqtaish, accountability program director at DCIP** *“Expanding bullets, which likely caused Malek's severe internal injuries, are explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law, and have been since 1868, due to the extreme and unnecessary suffering they cause,” ... “Yet, Israeli forces use these illegal weapons against Palestinian children with no consequences from the international community.”* *** Israeli forces have killed 21 Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank in 2025, according to documentation collected by DCIP.
