Archivist Notes On This Video

On October 21, 14 patients and 10 caregivers were transferred from Kamal Adwan Hospital in North Gaza to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City via a high-risk, WHO-led mission amid intense conflict and restricted access.

**Supply Blockage: **

Although initially agreed, critical medical supplies, blood, and fuel for Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda hospitals were denied by Israeli Army hours before the mission on October 20. Since October 1, only 6 out of 21 requested WHO missions to Gaza’s north were permitted, severely limiting aid access. Damaged roads and continued hostilities are obstructing access for patients, ambulances, and health workers, risking the hospital’s functionality if resupplies aren’t restored.

Mission Duration & Risks:

The mission took two days due to delays at Israeli checkpoints and extensive security screenings. The team was forced to stay overnight at Kamal Adwan Hospital because they couldn’t proceed to Al-Shifa Hospital due to nearby active conflict and Israeli bombing. En route to Al-Shifa, patients were removed from ambulances for security screenings, with some patients on stretchers left on the ground, and some staff faced humiliating treatment.

Kamal Adwan Hospital Status:

Partially functional but struggling due to severe supply shortages and increased needs from ongoing hostilities.

A recent nearby strike damaged the hospital gate.

Currently hosting 95 patients, including 15 in intensive care, 4 of whom require continuous life support (including 7 children).

Over 200 severely injured and 53 deceased brought in over the last two days, causing overwhelming strain.

Critical WHO Concerns:

Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda are the last operational hospitals in North Gaza. WHO warns that without these hospitals, the health crisis in Gaza will worsen drastically. WHO calls for unimpeded access, reliable mission facilitation, sustained aid flow, health facility protection, and a ceasefire to safeguard healthcare in Gaza.

Archivist Notes: Day 381: North Gaza Invasion

Day 17 of Israel's third ground invasion of the North Gaza governorate.

As of midday, 640 people were killed in this Israeli onslaught.

The day started with raids on multiple schools notably in the Abu Rashid pond and Sheikh Zayed areas as the IDF carried continued actions taken two days prior: forcing displaced people to leave North Gaza, while shelling other schools with artillery. All those inside these schools were taken via Al-Awda Street and Jabalia Camp Street to the Al-Jurn area, reaching the west and south of Gaza City. However, IDF tanks struck people despite complying with the displacement orders, murdering and injuring at least a dozen.

Amid the total siege, living conditions are deteriorating to increasingly dangerous levels day by day:

  • Food has almost ran out, and water is not fit for consumption. Mothers mix starch and flour with water and sugar if available in the absence of milk
  • As the army shoots anyone who moves, people shelter in the rubble and burn tent cloth and furniture instead of firewood.

Situation at Kamal Adwan hospital: as Israeli massacres continue escalating in North Gaza:

  • hospital staff is exhausted
  • No essential supplies left, including blood units, leading to victims being left to die slowly, in pain. The hospital also ran out of body bags used as shrouds for the martyrs
  • Israel still denies aid and the transfer of patients and injured out of the hospital. (source)
  • International organizations still idle

List of events harming civilians, infrastructure and living conditions:

Morning

  • Before dawn, the IDF obstructed the mission of a WHO delegation and deied it permission to bring fuel to Kamal Adwan hospital and to transfer patients from there, despite previous coordination
  • The army besieges UNRWA schools Al-Fawqa and Hafsa, in the middle of Jabalia camp, arrests the men, and prepares to deport the displaced to Salah Al-Din Street east of the camp
  • Strike on a group of people around Al Yemen Assaeed hospital, killing 4 people
  • Strike on a group of people filling water in Jabalia al-Balad; 6 people killed. The mortar shells also injured people being displaced using the same road, and were fired at an ambulance while evacuating casualties (Photos)
  • Gate of Qalibo school in Sheikh Zayed blown up
  • Strike on Al-Shawwa school in Beit Hanoun; 3 people killed

Midday

  • After forcing people out of shelters in Sheikh Zayed, in a school oppositoe Abu Rashid pond, Israeli tanks struck them while they were being displaced Killing and injuring several people (Sources)1 2
  • Footage surfaces from a massacre at the UNRWA Jabalia Boys Preparatory School in Abu Rashid pond area. 10 people were killed and 30 injured when Israeli tanks struck the school as IDPs were preparing to leave, in compliance with IDF forced displacement orders
