In the early hours of September 23rd, 2024, an Israeli Apache helicopter fired a missile at the upper floor of the Khaled bin Al-Walid school, which houses the displaced in Camp 2, Nuseirat, central Gaza Strip.

This strike killed four members of the Aql family, a mother, father, and two of their children, and left their remaining two children orphaned and severely burned.

Others in nearby classrooms were also wounded. A number of injured people arrived at Al-Awda Hospital in the camp. Civil Defense recovered the bodies of the Aql family, and transported by ambulance the surviving children, brothers Ahmed and Abdul Rahman, in critical condition to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
