Archivist Notes: Bloody raid on Sa’ir (Hebron/ Al-Khalil)

On February 11, Isreali forces raided Sa’ir near al-Khalil in the southern West Bank. They fired several young people, killing one and injured 3.

3 others were injured by Israeli gunfire :

  • Earlier, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that a young man was seriously injured by live bullets in the chest.

  • Another young man was shot in the abdomen and was transferred to the hospital for treatment, the source added.

Targeting and injuring children in their home

-Jannat Faisal Sabri Mutawar, a 8-year-old Palestinian girl, was seriously injured in the eyes and face after Israeli occupation forces opened fire on her house in Sa'ir around 5 p.m. According to Wafa, she was injured by bullet shrapnel in her eyes and face while she was hugging her little brother Muhammad (3 years old) in order to protect him, while Israeli soldiers were tagerting them through the windows of their home.

According to her father, Faisal Al-Mutwar : “Jannat is my eldest child and has two siblings. They were all inside the house when the tragedy began. Her younger brother, Mohammed, was standing on the bed in the bedroom, facing a window overlooking the courtyard of the house, as the occupation forces stormed the area. Jannat rushed to her brother to protect him and move him away from the window after she saw one of the occupation soldiers pointing his rifle at him. She was able to get him down, and as soon as she completed the mission and raised her head, a bullet fired by that soldier penetrated the window glass into the bedroom, hitting her scalp. The bullet exploded, and its fragments mixed with the shattered glass from the window, a large portion of which landed in the girl's eyes and face. At the sound of gunfire and screaming, Jannat’s mother rushed to the room. Jannat had closed her eyes, her face covered in blood, screaming and shouting. So I quickly carried her outside, but the occupation soldiers deployed around the house and firing bullets at the citizens prevented her from leaving in search of help. Jannat remained bleeding until one of her uncles was able to reach her and transport her to Al-Mezan Hospital, after having traveled a long distance and taken alternative routes due to an occupation forces checkpoint that completely closed the entrance to the town, preventing citizens from moving.”

Her family rushed her to Alia Governmental Hospital before she was transferred with severe eye injuries caused by bullet and glass fragments to Al-Mizan Specialized Hospital in Hebron for emergency treatment. Her vision is nearly lost, requiring multiple surgeries. Doctors removed shrapnel from her right eye, slightly improving her vision, but significant damage remains. Her left eye has little to no chance of recovery.

Psychologically, Janat is deeply traumatized, suffering from severe shock, panic attacks, and nightmares where she envisions being hunted by monsters—symbols of the soldiers who harmed her. Her case reflects the ongoing suffering of Palestinians amid the aggression in Gaza.

Similar attacks were also reported in the Al-Shuyukh town, adjacent to Sa’ir, after being stormed by the IDF troops. A bulldozer and a sawmill were also confiscated during the raid.
