"Tomorrow, the Israeli parliament will try to impeach me. This is a blatant, fascist, and anti-democratic move. It only proves how deeply they fear truth and justice. But history will absolve me, and history will judge them." - Source
The Knesset is advancing formal proceedings to expel MK Ayman Odeh (Hadash-Ta’al) over his outspoken support for Gaza, including solidarity with Palestinian prisoners. A petition backed by around 70 lawmakers—primarily from right-wing parties—accuses him of supporting “terrorism.”
This follows a recent two-week suspension by the Knesset Ethics Committee, during which Odeh was barred from activities and salary.
Under the 2016 MK Expulsion Law, at least 70 signatures are needed to petition, then three-quarters of a House Committee must agree to advance the case. Finally, a supermajority of 90 out of 120 Knesset members is required to expel. If successful, Odeh can appeal to the Supreme Court.
To date, no MK has ever been expelled under this law. A notable attempt in 2024 to remove MK Ofer Cassif fell short—85 lawmakers voted for it, missing the required margin.
