The Jewish Defense League (LDJ) is a far-right Jewish group known for violent actions, notably against pro-Palestinian activists, anti-Semitic figures, and left-wing Jewish militants. Very active in the 2000s, it supports colonization and expresses racist anti-Arab slogans. Although less visible in recent years, the LDJ remains active and recently regained momentum during demonstrations in Paris.
Anthony Attal led the LDJ until the mid-2000s. Known for his provocative nature, he orchestrated several aggressive operations, including an attack on a bookstore during an Alain Soral book signing and violent actions against events supporting the Palestinian cause. He stepped down when he made aliyah (moved to Israel). His name has resurfaced in recent incidents where LDJ members have conducted aggressive campaigns on social media, targeting left-wing politicians like David Guiraud.
The LDJ maintains ties with the French far right, especially the National Rally, sometimes acting as a security force for this party during protests. The organization also targets left-wing figures like Jean-Luc Mélenchon, accusing them of supporting “Islamists,” and continues to escalate provocations, violence, and intimidation.
This violent trend has led several political figures to file complaints against the LDJ and call for its dissolution.
