"Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, and Faris Odeh, a 15-year-old boy from Gaza, are iconic figures of Palestinian resistance, both photographed standing unarmed before Israeli tanks with nothing but their resolve. Dr. Hussam refused to abandon his hospital despite threats, even after losing his son to an Israeli drone strike. Recently, he was detained and severely beaten by Israeli forces. Faris Odeh, remembered for his defiance during the Second Intifada, was killed in 2000 while resisting Israeli forces.
