"Al-Luban al-Gharbiyya (اللبّن الغربيّة), Ramallah district - Al-Bira. Summary and update. Yesterday, in the attack by the settlers, 11 Palestinians were injured while they were picking olives on their own land, and the olive vineyard was burned by the criminal settlers. The soldiers, some of whom are afraid of the settler militias and some of whom are cooperating with them, did not keep the hazards away to allow the harvest, but kept the owners of the vineyard and the land away and even fired tear gas at them. The harvest season has just begun, and the trees are loaded with olives. It seems that this year - as in the past year - the settlers, with the support of the security forces, are going to prevent the Palestinians from reaching their private olive groves. Apartheid."

The incident took place in Al-Luban al-Gharbiyya (اللبّن الغربيّة), Ramallah district - Al-Bira, occupied West Bank.
Hasem Salama and his family were attacked by over 50 masked and armed Israeli settlers while harvesting olives. 11 Palestinians were injured, including women and a 7-year-old child. The settlers used iron pipes, causing bone fractures and severe injuries; Salama himself suffered leg wounds and was unable to stand.
Israeli soldiers arrived but supported the settlers, helping to expel the Palestinian residents instead of arresting the attackers. Eyewitnesses reported the army firing sound bombs to force Palestinians off their land.
Recent event and context:
In August 2023, settlers, known as “Hilltop Youth”, seized private Palestinian land in the village. The settlers brought livestock, placed mobile homes, and received water and electricity from the Israeli government, turning the area into an informal settlement. The seized area contains most of the villagers' olive trees, preventing them from accessing their land.
Historical Context:
Israel has confiscated thousands of dunams of land in al-Lubban al-Gharbi for the Beit Aryeh-Ofarim settlement, leaving only about 280 dunams available for Palestinian villagers. Israel has occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip since 1967, and international law deems settlements on occupied land illegal.
