"This woman is 63 years old, carrying on her face a story of endless pain. She suffers from a broken nose and deep wounds to her head. For context, I stitched the wounds on her head without any local anesthetic, yet she showed no reaction! I know the pain must be severe, but it seems that here in Gaza, we have moved beyond feeling pain—our repeated suffering and endless shocks have numbed us completely. She sat there silently, her hand resting on her cheek, as if silently asking, “How much longer will this injustice last? How much longer will this genocide continue?” I wish I could know what is going through her mind. Is it the pain of loss? Or an unanswerable question about the reason for all this suffering?
