Archivist Notes On This Video

"The bombing of shelters does not stop. I am now in the Kafr Qasim shelter, in Shati camp, west of Gaza City, and here, Israeli warplanes raided this classroom, destroying it and killing everyone who was here.

This is the hole caused by the bomb (on the floor)* and came from above* (pans to1 the ceiling). It came down until it reached the ground floor. Everyone who was in this room, became a martyr. 7 martyrs so far.

Surely, the IOF will have claimed, in the meantime, that this was a command and control center. But when we do a simple observation of the scene where we're standing - and we were here at the first moments when the martyrs were recovered - we find enveloppes, letters, debris, a teapot, food grade nylon, mattresses. People are still searching for the remains of martyrs, while fire is still burning. There is nothing that coudl indicate that there was a command and control center or that we are in a military facility, or even administrative. Everything here indicates that we are in a school that turned into a shelter. The school, while not housing many displaced people, has now been deserted because of this Israeli strike."

Archivist Notes: Kafr Qasim school massacre - Al-Shati

Around midday, an Israeli airstrike targeted the Kafr Qasim Girls' Secondary School, which shelters displaced people in Al-Shati camp, west of Gaza City, killing seven people, and injuring dozens. Many of the casualties in this strike were employees of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza.

The school is located in an area that is full of schools including a UNRWA school-complex, the Shati camp schools, the Al-Shifa Street schools and the Kafr Qasim school, each sheltering hundreds of families.

Footage in the aftermath shows that the school has been almost deserted following the airstrike as displaced persons were afraid of the possibility of subsequent bombardment.

The Director General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Gaza, Eng. Majed Saleh, was killed in this strike, along with his nephew.

This strike was officially the 19th school bombed by Israel in Gaza City alone since August.

Survivor testimony Author Meqdad Jameel writes: "They bombed Kafr Qasim School in our neighborhood in Al-Shati Camp. Our children miraculously survived while they were memorizing the Quran there and the bombing took place!"
