"For weeks we have been warning about the heavy, continuous, ice cold rain storms that move into Gaza during the winter months. This year they held off later than usual, but January is always the wettest. This is colloquially called “arb’nia” which translates to 40 days, as it often seems that once the rainy season begins it lasts for over a month straight. This typically starts around December 22 and continues until the end of January. In Gaza it’s considered the coldest 40 days of the entire year. We expect these next 40 days, if not longer, to be some of the toughest we’ve seen so far. Downpours combined with the cold temperatures and lack of sturdy shelter will most certainly increase the almost unfathomable suffering. Please help us equip families with what they need to survive this winter. Tents, tarps, blankets and baby clothes will help offer some protection against the bitter cold.
