On September 17, 2024, hundreds of handheld pagers used by members of Hezbollah exploded across Lebanon, killing at least 12 people, including two children, and wounding nearly 3,000, many critically.

On Wednesday September 18, more explosions involving devices such as walkie-talkie radios, mobile phones, laptops, and even solar power cells occurred, killing at least 20 people and injuring 450.

Location and Damage:

The latest explosions were reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut and the southern city of Tyre, with vehicles on fire and residential buildings damaged. One explosion occurred during a funeral, reportedly originating from within a car.

Lebanese hospitals are overwhelmed, and the health ministry is urgently seeking blood donations for the injured. The explosions have caused widespread panic, with images of destroyed devices and burning buildings shared on social media.

Suspected Perpetrators:

In the first time, Israel has no claimed responsibility, even if the state was suspected of being behind the attacks, as it has a history of targeting Hezbollah and Arab civilian populations under the pretext of fighting terror.

Historical Context:

Israel’s conflict with Lebanon has deep roots, beginning with its 1982 invasion and continuing through the 2006 war and ongoing strikes. Since the start of its assault on Gaza in October, nearly 600 people have been killed in Lebanon, with many attacks aimed at Hezbollah members.

Terrorist Nature of Attacks:

Critics argue that the indiscriminate nature of the explosions, which targeted civilians alongside Hezbollah members, reflects terrorism rather than self-defense, raising concerns about the escalating violence.
