"This is Mirvat. She lives in The Refaat Alareer Camp with her mother and father and two brothers. All three children have had open heart surgery and need further medical intervention. “Mimi” herself has had two surgeries and following the second one, she lost her ability to speak, developed brain atrophy, and nerve laxity. We have been working with Mimi to help her gain control over her facial muscles and use her tongue to form words. Our on-site physiotherapist provides Mimi with multiple sessions per week to help her speak again! It’s this individualized level of care that we aim to achieve at The Refaat Alareer Camp. No child is left behind or forgotten, we do everything in our power to improve their current circumstances despite the horror they live through.
