Islam Bader is responding to questions about the death toll from the morning's two major massacres in Beit Lahia (Abdul-Ati and Ghabayen families) and the ensuing displacement from the area.
"Let's start with the dilemma of statistics. The healthcare system has completely collapsed, in both the medical and administrative sense, given that there are no figures (about those massacres) coming from the Ministry of Health due to the inability to communicate and due to people burying their martyrs themselves. This is particularly the case for Kamal Adwan and AL-Awda hospitals, which are supposed to be the official sources issuing figures about the martyrs and injured during this war but are unable to fulfil that role. This is particularly the case for Kamal Adwan and AL-Awda hospitals. So the (only) information that is available comes from civilian sources, and all official parties and the Civil Defense in Gaza City are making efforts to communicate with civilian sources (in North Gaza) to get figures about the martyrs.
What we know so far about the martyrs in Beit Lahia since dawn until now is about 70 martyrs. This is the figure shared by the Civil Defense. 15 martyrs from Abdul-Ati family and at least 50 from the Ghabayen family massacre. The martyrs did not belong to these two families alone; rather, there were other displaced families who took shelter in those houses, in addition to martyrs from neighbouring houses. There have also been other strikes, albeit on a smaller scale, that still resulted in the martyrdom of a number of people.
As for displacement, we documented a short while ago people being displaced on Salah al-Din Street. Those were people who were forced to leave the Beit Lahia project area. We gathered testimonies from them, and they were visibly exhausted and extremely afraid. They told us the Israeli occupation forces perpetrated bloody massacres, that the situation in Beit Lahia was harsh, and that they lived through hell, forcing them to leave. They also mentioned that the Israeli occupation forces insulted and abused them at the Salah al-Din Street checkpoint."

List of key events harming civilians, infrastructure and living conditions:
Overnight Israeli airstrikes targeted residential blocks in the Beit Lahia project, destroying the houses of the Abdul-Ati and Ghabayen families and killing other families who were sheltering there and in the same residential blocks. 75 were killed in both massacres.
