Another statement of Rudy Rocheman :

"Know your place 🕍

Last night, I gave an empowerment speech for the Jewish community in Paris. The city I was born in has turned into a place where most Jews fear to be themselves and where many have been so traumatized that they’ve concluded that wearing a kippa or Magen David is a sort of “provocation” to being attacked by antisemites.

Being a Jew might not always be something visible, but it must never intentionally be made invisible.

Imagine if a black person was told they had to hide being darker or a woman was told to hide being female, and that being themselves was provocative?

Hiding your Jewish identity might in theory minimize the short term risk of a potential attack, but it also means that you’re accepting Jewish persecution being a norm, which in practice only maximizes definite attacks on the entire Jewish collective, far worse than what an individual could experience.

The only thing Jews should fear is what happens to Jews when they begin to fear.

It isn’t too late to change the world around us, but French Jews need to understand something now. Either fight back and win the cultural war, or leave now. Allowing society to turn on its Jewish population and doing nothing about it is a formula for certain annihilation.

Oh, and while we’re at it, many told me that core fundamental Jewish ideas here were “non pc” and that our truth should hidden.

Let me be clear. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and our Temple will be rebuilt!

What do you think the smashing of the glass before yelling “Mazal Tov” represents, which has been practiced by all Jews throughout the past 2,000 years when getting married? It has always been the promise that the children from this marriage will rebuild Jerusalem physically and spiritually to its full capacity.

The late Rabbi Saks once said “non-Jews respect Jews who respect their Judaism”.

Knowing who you are is not enough, it’s time we become who we’ve always been deep down, and bring our light to the forefront. To some this might seem dangerous, but history proves that this is the source our protection.
