"Without warning or any chance to prepare, shops in the town of al-‘Auja, located in the southern Jordan Valley, were shut down by order of the Israeli military. For the past four days, residents have been unable to buy food or basic necessities. Soldiers patrol the streets to enforce the closure and ensure shops remain shut. The Israeli army blocks Palestinian access to and from the nearby city of Jericho — the nearest urban center and main source of goods. This cruel policy apparently aims at harming the Palestinian population of the southern Jordan Valley—cutting off livelihoods from local shopkeepers and denying basic sustenance to families.
