Archivist Notes: Day 397: North Gaza Invasion

Day 33 of Israel's third ground invasion of the North Gaza governorate.

The day was marked by an extreme escalation of airstrikes on Beit Lahia that were relentless in the morning and decimated the houses of multiple families. The airstrikes came in the wake of two developments the day before (November 5): forced displacement leaflets ordering the evacuation of areas in Beit Lahia, and the dismissal of ex-Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant and his replacement by Israel Katz.

The Israeli assault also led to a renewed wave of displacement around midday.

Healthcare situation: Kamal Adwan Hospital sustained direct shelling by Israeli forces, destroying critical equipment and injuring staff and patients. The staff is still besieged inside with very little remaining after Israeli forces abducted the medical staff, leaving the hospital with only two doctors, including the director, and a few nurses.

Israeli forces continue preventing the entry of surgical crews, and the hospital still does not have a single ambulance. The situation forces wounded people to go to hospital on foot, even those requiring surgery. Others succumb to their injuries as they are unable to reach hospital.
