"The word on everyone’s mind in Gaza City today is “displacement.” After surviving months of bombardment and adapting to life under siege, residents now face the threat of being forced south. Families would need at least $600 just to secure transport for their belongings, if they could even find space for a tent in the overcrowded south. Gaza City, which has already absorbed thousands displaced from the north, is now being emptied as the occupation seeks to reduce it to rubble like Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Jabalia Camp, al-Shujaiya, al-Zaytoun, and Rafah. Forcing two million people into Khan Yunis or central Gaza would mean catastrophic overcrowding and devastation.
