Archivist Notes: Asmaa school massacre

Around 2:30 pm, Israeli strikes targeted the UNRWA's 'Asma Bent Abi Bakr' school in Shati camp, west of Gaza City.

This is the fourth Israeli bombing on the school since June 2024:

  • June 6, 2024: 3 killed in targeting a room stocking toys
  • June 25, 2024: 14 killed
  • October 19, 2024: 8 killed, many torn to shreds

Minutes after the strike, casualties were confirmed at 9 killed and about 20 injuries.

Graphic footage showed at least 4 men were killed or injured while carrying loaves of bread, now soaked in their blood, 3 children seriously injured, and an edlerly man disemboweled by the Israeli strike.

Among the dead were four journalists (Sources 1 2 3):

  1. Saed Ridwan: Head of the Digital Media Department at Al-Aqsa channel (aka Seraj TV)
  2. Hamza Abu Salmiya: editor at Snd News Agency
  3. Haneen Mahmoud Baroud: media professional and journalist at the Jerusalem Foundation.
  4. Nadia Imad Al-Sayed: producer and presenter at local radio stations.
