Translation of the caption : "An Israeli special force infiltrated using an ambulance and opened fire on an elderly woman and a young man during its raid on Balata refugee camp east of Nablus about two weeks ago. The use of ambulances is considered a war crime, and the killing of civilians is another crime. All of this is documented, yet the world remains unjust"
On December 19, a 80-year-old elderly Palestinian woman, Halima Abu Lail, was shot and murdered by Israeli troops during a military raid into Balata camp in Nablus after being shot by Israeli forces in the chest and leg, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed.
Another young man, Qusai Sarouji, was kill directly by live amunition during the raid.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said its ambulance crews provided first aid for six wounded civilians, included three people injured by live bullets and two elderly to the hospital: a 70-year-old woman who was shot several times, an elderly man (65 years old) who was shot in the back, and a young man (21 years old) in the abdomen. The PRCS added that Israeli soldiers prevented ambulances from evacuating some casualties and opened fire around them.
CCTV footage showed Israeli troops entering the camp using an ambulance, with reinforcements deployed in several neighborhoods to arrest wanted Palestinians. Soldiers used an ambulance to infiltrate the area, resulting in the deaths of two civilians, including 80-year-old Halimah Saleh Hassan Abu Leil. Video evidence and witness testimonies reveal that Israeli forces fired indiscriminately, wounding several people. The Israeli Army later admitted the unauthorized use of a medical vehicle was a "serious offence" and violated international law, which prohibits military use of civilian medical resources. Rights groups, including B’Tselem, condemned the actions as violations of international law and potential war crimes.
Among the injured was Hussein Jamal Abu Leil, 25, who underwent life-saving surgery after being shot. Witnesses and relatives insist the victims were civilians unconnected to militias.
During the raid, pupils in the camp's UNRWA school had to stay and shelter inside.
