Closing post by journalist Yusuf Fares: "Let’s be realistic. Over the past year, the occupation army has turned the lives of the displaced in the south of Gaza into a living hell. More than a million people are crammed into an area that does not exceed 10 square kilometers. They live in tents, with death chasing them through bombings and fires, and they face displacement whenever the enemy decides to make their already harsh lives more miserable. The occupation has pushed our people, who were forced to flee, to the point where they prefer death in the north of Gaza over displacement to the south. As a result, there is no longer any logical reason to flee to the south, especially as we approach the winter season. Why would one leave a roof that shelters them to seek a tent they might not even find?

Let’s set aside the blending of heroism and legendary stories. Most of those who decided to stay in the north of Gaza heard firsthand accounts from those previously displaced to the south, and they logically decided not to take the road of potential death through Netzarim, only to settle into despair, regret, or further bombardment in the south and central areas of the Gaza Strip. When we call on people to stay, we are urging them to hold on to logic above all else."
