Archivist Notes: Beit Lahia residential block massacre

Around 10:30 pm, Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple residential blocks, close to Abu Jidyan, between Abu Jidyan roundabout and Al-Qassam mosque in Beit Lahia.

Journalist Hani Mahmoud received reports that the attack was so massive it shook the entire western part of Beit Lahia. The Israeli bombardment razed to the ground four or five residential blocks where multiple families were residing, including the Al-Sharif, Obaid, Al-Dariwi, Hindi, and Al-Kahlout families. Neighboring houses were also destroyed.

The recent displacement from to Beit Lahia from Jabalia due to the brutal Israeli siege led to an even greater number of civilians being condensed in Beit Lahia.

Casualties:

As of October 20 midday, the death toll stood at 87 martyrs and missing people under the rubble, and over 40 injuries, including very critical cases.

Civil Defense crews were unable to complete the rescue operations due to direct fire on the medical crews by Israeli aircraft.

Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, stated that staff is forced to triage the casualties and that a number of victims were lost due to the continued lack of medical resources sustained by the Israeli siege and persistent denial of aid entry

When the paramedics brought the wounded to Kamal Adwan Hospital, the IDF began heavily shelling around the hospital and struck the hospital's water tanks and electricity network. (Sources 1 2)
