Archivist Notes: Massive airstrike on Beirut suburb despite hope of ceasefire

On November 26, around 1 p.m. Israeli military issues mutliple forced displacement orders for southern Beirut. Israel’s military has threatened it will soon attack several buildings in southern Beirut, telling nearby residents to flee immediately. In a pair of posts on X, Israel’s Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, posted a map with several buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs of Borj El Brajneh and Tahouitet al-Ghadir that he identified as targets. “For your safety and the safety of your family members, you must evacuate these buildings and those adjacent to them immediately,” he warned.

The attack occured around 3 p.m. in a very short and intens laps of time.

Just after the attack, Avichai Adraee boasted on his Twitter account about the latest assault on Beirut "20 Terrorist Targets in 120 Seconds: Israeli Forces Strike Hezbollah Assets in Beirut" and announced another one afterward :

"The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a rapid operation lasting 120 seconds, involving eight fighter jets targeting 20 terrorist sites in Beirut. Among the targets were seven sites used for Hezbollah's financial management and storage, including command centers, cash storage facilities, and branches of the Al-Qard Al-Hassan association. This organization, utilized by Hezbollah, manages and stores funds used for military armament. These strikes continue a series of attacks launched weeks ago aimed at undermining Hezbollah's economic system, which significantly supports its military capabilities.(...)The operation also targeted 13 additional Hezbollah sites in southern Beirut, including an air unit center, intelligence headquarters, command centers, weapons depots, an operations room, artillery storage, and military buildings."

Around 4 p.m. he published on his account a new serie of target in Beirut and in the beeka valley.

In total more than 34 target and evacuation orders are issued since the morning.

Testimony of Zein Basravi, Reporting from Beirut for Al Jazeera, Lebanon

*"Last night, people in Lebanon went to sleep hearing the sound of sonic booms from Israeli jets overhead, hoping it would be the end. But they woke up this morning once again to the sound of sonic booms in the air. We’ve seen a number of strikes carried out this morning in the south of the country, including Tayr Harfa and Chamaa. The expectation is that this will continue today after a very violent 24 hours yesterday. Still, the hope remains that all of this escalation will follow the pattern of past conflicts between Israel and forces in Lebanon – an uptick in violence followed by a cessation of violence. We’re hearing from local sources and diplomats that there are positive signals, that everyone wants this conflict to end." * 1 2
