Settler harassment in Rakeez (Masafer Yatta)

West Bank, Masafer Yatta 12 January, 2025
### Chronology: Avigayil Outpost (West Bank) **September 26, 2001 (Yom Kippur Eve):** Avigayil was established by recently demobilized Israeli soldiers on 1,000 dunams (250 acres) of strategic hilltop land. The aim was to prevent Palestinian attacks on a nearby road. **2001–2002:** Founders stated their goal was to create a buffer zone between Palestinian communities and Bedouin tribes, forming part of a “line of settlements” alongside other outposts like Havat Maon, Mitzpe Yair, Ma'on, Carmel, Susya, and Beit Yatir. **Immediately after founding:** The Israeli High Court of Justice issued a temporary injunction freezing all development until the legal status of the land was clarified. **2003:** Avigayil was listed among 22 unauthorized outposts slated for demolition under Ariel Sharon’s "Road Map for Peace." **2014:** Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon announced progress toward legalizing the outpost. **September 2023:** Avigayil was officially legalized under Israeli law. #Harassement and pogrom since October 7 **January 12, 2025** Masafering thread translation : "Under the Israeli apartheid regime, a settler invasion of Palestinian land is grounds for arrest—of the Palestinian, of course. Yesterday in the village of Rakeez, settlers with a flock invaded the yard of an elderly resident's home and let their sheep graze on his crops. When he approached them, they struck him on the head. Residents called the police and an ambulance, but the army arrived and blocked the ambulance from passing. When the police finally arrived, they told the Palestinian man he could come to file a complaint. However, when he reached the police station, he was arrested and held for hours. One of the settlers involved in the incident is known as Amichai Shiloah, the founder of the “Havat Droma” outpost—a figure infamous for his efforts to ethnically cleanse the residents of Masafer Yatta. As usual, the settlers faced no consequences. How can one expect a regime that sends settlers to take over Palestinian land to punish them for doing so? For the assaulted and arrested resident, settler and authority violence is nothing new. Last March, soldiers raided his home and assaulted a family member. The police refused to intervene". ![](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GhKQ1o-WoAAY_dT?format=jpg&name=small) **For the pogrom of April 17, 2025** and its aftermath see ["Pogrom in Al-Rakeez"](https://tiktokgenocide.com/event/1876)

Deir Istiya collective punishment

West Bank, Deir Istiya 09 January, 2025
**Translation of the Mistaclim thread: ** "Two laws for two peoples, or one law for one people. Under Israel’s military control over the Palestinians, collective punishment flourishes. On Thursday evening, Molotov cocktails and stones were thrown at Israeli vehicles passing by Deir Istiya. Shortly afterwards, after bypassing the roadblocks it had set up at the entrance to the village, the army raided Deir Istiya. The time that had passed made the capture of the Molotov cocktail throwers impossible. The soldiers went from house to house and randomly arrested 74 men aged 15 to 70, who did not take part of the incident. In one house, the father of the family was forced to choose one of his two sons who were staying at the house. All the men, some of whom were unwell, were made to sit on the street and after an hour were put on a bus in handcuffs and taken to a military shooting range near the settlement of Yakir. There they were met by Captain Hussein, a Shin Bet agent, who explained that because the village head had not prevented the throwing of stones, they were all being punished and that he had no problem killing them. After about 5 hours, the handcuffs were cut, everyone was put on the bus and taken to the neighboring village. Their families came to pick them up from there at night. A similar case of arresting men occurred in the village of Hares several months ago, after stone-throwing. Last night, around midnight, dozens of soldiers raided Deir Istiya. They broke into five houses, overturned the furniture, and terrorized the families. Yesterday afternoon, as in many other cases, settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles on Route 60. No army came to stop them or arrest them. Collective punishment is an old tactic. Since the massacre on October 7, the West Bank villages are closed, the settlers come and go freely, setting fire to villages and houses with their inhabitants, beating and abusing and returned home safely to the settlement or outpost, the Palestinians are collectively punished even if they have no idea what or why. In the eyes of the "occupation authorities," the Palestinians are not only not a people, they are also not human. Therefore, the authorities accept with understanding and even joy cooperate with, and sometimes even participate in practice in severe manifestations of violence." ![](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GhLMhR4XoAAnOiO?format=jpg&name=small) Collective punishment in the villages of Deir Istiya and Haras Photos and videos: Palestinian vehicles damaged by stone-throwing by settlers,
