Gaza Humanitarian Foundation: Degrading, murderous "aid distribution" operation

27 May, 2025
At least 408 martyred

This is a developing event. Details included in these notes may be subject to adjustments as events unfold and new revelations are made through investigations by the press or NGOs.

On May 27, Israel launched its so-called aid distribution bases that started operating in Rafah under a new distribution system initially aimed at pushing Palestinians to be permanently displaced from the northern areas of the Gaza Strip by relocating to the southern areas to obtain food relief at the cost of no return.

The IDF built four such bases: three concentrated in western Rafah and one around the Netzarim corridor in Central Gaza.

According to UNOCHA's head of office in Gaza and the West Bank, "one of the new militarized distribution points in Gaza has been established on the site where Israeli forces killed and buried 15 first responders in a mass grave in March; a grotesque symbol of how life, and that which sustains it, is being both erased and controlled in Gaza."

Sources on the ground reported that armed American security contractors could not control the large crowd of Palestinians in dire need, given the lengthy (+70 days) aid blockade imposed by Israel. Footage shows that the forces started shooting on the premises and later withdrew from the area. Locals reported that three Palestinians were killed and 46 injured, noting that some of these casualties may have been caused by stampedes as people fled the gunfire.

As days passed, such shootings and ensuing massacres became a daily occurrence, spread between the Rafah and Netzarim sites. In turn, around mid-June, the "flour massacres" spread to other areas of the Gaza Strip. As people realized the risk of death and the chance of returning empty-handed from GHF sites, they started gathering around IDF-enforced aid entry routes to improve their chances of securing aid. The routes were mainly around the Tahlia area in Khan Younis and through the Zikim crossing in North Gaza, passing south to the Al-Sudaniya area in northwestern Gaza City.

A month after the GHF launched, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz published testimonies from IDF soldiers corroborating what Palestinian journalists have been reporting all along. Soldiers testified that their commanders instructed troops to open fire on crowds to clear the lines, emphasizing that "there are no innocents in Gaza." The troops were instructed to fire shells under the guise of "warning shots," which were then followed by live rounds as people ran for cover. Soldiers described the GHF sites as a "killing field," where they are permitted to use mortars, grenades, and heavy machine guns.

The following is a timeline of days on which casualties were reported by local sources. These reports have not been fully verified against the timeline published by the Government Media Office in late June 2025.
